The Salmon Fish Skin Tanning Weekend offers a rare and fascinating opportunity to work with one of the most remarkable natural materials available. Under the guidance of highly experienced instructors, participants explore the transformation of raw salmon skins into a strong, supple, and highly durable leather, prized historically for both its beauty and performance.

Often overlooked, fish skin leather has been used for centuries by indigenous cultures across northern Europe, Asia, and North America. Its unique fibre structure creates a material that is exceptionally tear-resistant while remaining flexible and lightweight. Over the course of the weekend, participants gain hands-on experience of the complete tanning process, developing both practical skill and a deeper appreciation for traditional material knowledge.

Each participant works with two salmon skins, allowing techniques to be practised and refined while producing finished leather suitable for future craft projects.
